DDV Thinakaran, who defeated the 30-year-old midterm election, won independently

In the history of Tamil Nadu in the 1980s, there have been 53 interruptions in different circumstances. In this, 45 times ruling parties have won. The opposition only won 8 times. None of the candidates who contested independently for the last 30 years had won the election.

Finally, in the by-election in the Natham constituency in 1999, the opposition AIADMK Natam Viswanathan won the contest. Subsequently, the opposition candidate did not succeed in any mid-term election in 2004. Following, the ruling party candidates are successful.

However, all those histories are now thrown out of the RK Nagar constituency by contesting independent candidate DV Vinayakaran. It is noteworthy that the AIADMK has been defeated in the first election after the death of Jayalalithaa.
